Cheers to a Happy and Healthy New Year!

I happen to agree with Mr. Henry Moore.  Over the years I have found that I need to mentally check in every day or at least every couple of days to be sure I am on track with my New Year resolutions.  Resolutions are best as  affirmations for me.  Repeating in a simple statement that which you intend to pursue or achieve, allows the goal to sink into your brain, so to speak!

My Beauty Fit -90 days to looking and feeling great!- has kicked into high gear after the holiday.  My customers/new friends are done with the holiday cakes and it is time to go to work!  One particular step that has been a great support for most of us, is the Greens Superfood drink!

Don’t Give Up!

I am almost there! Not quite where I want to be but certainly not where I was!  South Florida is so wonderful during the Holiday Season, especially the  lovely weather.  Even with the recent cold spell, it’s still fun to visit the restaurants, night clubs and shops along Fort Lauderdale Beach.  Of course for serious Holiday shopping, Sawgrass Mills is the place to go! Upscale dining too.  My friends and I had the pleasure of dining at the opening of the new Yard House before the Janet Jackson State of the World Tour earlier this week. Craft beers, lobster and crab dip appetizers, tasty beef sliders, great service and good drinks. Which brings me to the moral of the story!

Don’t give up!

South Florida living isn’t easy if you’re a beach babe and a foodie also! We’re still focused on that beach babe body right?  Even if you have cheated here and there(like me), don’t throw in the towel. Fit life is a way of life, a lifestyle that can be managed. We’re in this together!  Even with the occasional cheat, my Beauty tools and secrets are pulling me through, including my It Works body wraps and Fat Fighters! These are the specialists that have been holding it down for me “it “ being my belly!

A goal is a dream with a deadline”! Napoleon Hill

Holidays are upon us!  Hope you are enjoying the season!  I had a fabulous Thanksgiving and Birthday weekend!  Besides the traffic….!  So many people here in South Florida visiting family or just here to soak up the sun!

With so much to do, see and eat, I  am reminded to send a shout out to encourage you to stick to your goals!  If you are on this page-you are either seeking to achieve or maintain a beautiful beach body!  With all the cakes, pies, mac n cheese…  it ain’t easy!

I am still managing my weight loss goals and Ketosis.    Intermittent Fasting has been great for me because I cannot completely remove sugar from my life!   Strict Keto dieting almost requires this step.

Walking is (Wo)Man’s Best Medicine. Hippocrates

Waking is a great way to lose weight while Intermittent Fasting.   Walking outdoors is especially good for you!    The sunshine will feed your skin with Vitamin D which helps with weight loss, strengthens your bones and circulatory system.

Vitamin D works to maintain blood pressure, suppress artery-damaging inflammation, and protect the vessels from calcification-which helps prevent heart disease.   That’s a big deal, considering that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year!

Another benefit to walking outdoors is what the Japanese call Shinrin yoku, or “Forest Bathing”.  Go to your favorite park or nature reserve like the Fern Forest, here in South Florida and chill among the trees.   Many trees give off organic compounds that support our “NK” (natural killer) cells that are part of our immune system’s way of fighting cancer.  Research has shown that Cedar, Cypress and Pine trees contain the phytoncides which make up the essential oils of many plants and trees. These phytochemicals were found to decrease levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.

Beach walking is my favorite!  The salty sea air does wonders for the respiratory system.  Those of you with asthma, bronchitis, sinus pressure, coughing/COPD will notice a difference in their condition after just one day at the beach.

Of course strength training  and cardio are excellent as well.  As a matter of fact, bodybuilders practice IF(Intermittent Fasting) to ensure a lean physique without losing their precious muscles mass.  However, if you are just getting started, you may want to work your way up to more strenuous activities as you adjust to your new fitness lifestyle.

For walking, all you need is a pedometer-2000 steps is about a mile, comfortable shoes or sneakers and sunscreen.

While you are walking, its a great time to muse, meditate, or just enjoy the beauty of life…and lose weight!

Try Intermittent Fasting!

Every where you look, you see Keto this and Keto that… its the “in” thing to not eat anything for hours at a time!  I am on my 3rd day and I feel really good.  I have fasted before but I am a lot smarter about it now.  It is true that you can eat Whatever you want during your interval “feeding time” but why?  The idea is to lose the additional weight and feel good too!  Previously, I ate whatever I wanted and I did lose weight but my energy level was inconsistent.

Intermittent Fasting is basically a Ketogenic Diet because our bodies will naturally go into Ketosis during our fasting intervals.   However, we do need to eat healthy carbs like green vegetables along with nutritional supplements.  Most of all, you should be drinking lots of Water!

According to the Mayo Clinic, roughly 20% of our daily fluid intake comes from what we eat; the rest comes from drinks like water and tea (Business Insider 2017).  This finding explains some of the concerns people have encountered , such as feeling hangry( hungry and angry).  It is because they are dehydrated!  If you are not eating, you should still be drinking.  Our body, especially our skin, must have water to promote a healthy balance as it helps remove toxins and keeps our skin supple and wrinkle free.

If it wasn’t for coffee. I’d have no indentifiable personality whatsoever!

Stress-eating anyone?

Summer 2017 was great! Lots of fun in the Sun, spending time with friends and family, travel, etc.  It was great, until the weather got involved!

Florida is a beautiful place to live, awesome beaches, lots of attractions and things to do.  I love South Florida but not the Hurricanes!

So in just 2 weeks of worrying about Hurricane’s Harvey, Irma, Maria, preparing for their arrival,  buying water, pulling shudders, moving my entire container garden inside and of course, losing power- that is No Air-Conditioning….  After all this I have gained 15 lbs.!

Sure don’t blame the weather but it seems the best way (for me) to assuage fears of being washed away for eternity is eating whatever I can get my hands on!  Now, reality has set in and I have been fashionably getting along with leggings and skirts and dresses-that stretch!

My plans to be a Beach Body Babe may end up as a beached whale if I don’t do something fast!

You have probably heard about the Ketogenic Diet or High Fat/Low Carb dieting right?  Intermittent Fasting has been on my mind lately as it works really well with a fitness plan, especially strength training.  Intermittent fasting (or “IF”) is an interval eating pattern where you cycle between periods of eating and fasting.   It has been popular for a few years and has research to back it up.  Intermittent Fasting works because it causes your body to go into ketosis .

What is Ketosis?   Ketosis is a normal metabolic process. When the body does not have enough glucose for energy, it burns stored fats instead.   Body builders and athletes swear by this type of fasting as it produces  a lean body, and you get to eat. A lot.   I love to eat!
