Waking is a great way to lose weight while Intermittent Fasting. Walking outdoors is especially good for you! The sunshine will feed your skin with Vitamin D which helps with weight loss, strengthens your bones and circulatory system.
Vitamin D works to maintain blood pressure, suppress artery-damaging inflammation, and protect the vessels from calcification-which helps prevent heart disease. That’s a big deal, considering that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year!
Another benefit to walking outdoors is what the Japanese call Shinrin yoku, or “Forest Bathing”. Go to your favorite park or nature reserve like the Fern Forest, here in South Florida and chill among the trees. Many trees give off organic compounds that support our “NK” (natural killer) cells that are part of our immune system’s way of fighting cancer. Research has shown that Cedar, Cypress and Pine trees contain the phytoncides which make up the essential oils of many plants and trees. These phytochemicals were found to decrease levels of cortisol, the stress hormone.
Beach walking is my favorite! The salty sea air does wonders for the respiratory system. Those of you with asthma, bronchitis, sinus pressure, coughing/COPD will notice a difference in their condition after just one day at the beach.
Of course strength training and cardio are excellent as well. As a matter of fact, bodybuilders practice IF(Intermittent Fasting) to ensure a lean physique without losing their precious muscles mass. However, if you are just getting started, you may want to work your way up to more strenuous activities as you adjust to your new fitness lifestyle.
For walking, all you need is a pedometer-2000 steps is about a mile, comfortable shoes or sneakers and sunscreen.
While you are walking, its a great time to muse, meditate, or just enjoy the beauty of life…and lose weight!
